i downloaded a song only to realise it is in MPG format, has anyone got any free software i can use, since i dont want to buya program just for one song

i always thought mp3 was just mpeg-3. If it contains no video the maybe just rename it .mp3 ? I dont know just an idea

I can extract audio from any format of movie using "Audio/Video to Wav" software, it is extracted obviously as wav format so you will need another software like dbpoweramp, cdex, or itunes to convert the wav to mp3.

I agree with Johnex, I also thought of suggesting it although it might sound a bit of an overkill for your purpose but this software is a very versatile conversion tool for audio and video and it's free too!

website. Although it's trialware it is fully functional apart from the fact that you are limited to converting a certain amount of files per session.
It converts the following: MPEG (mpg, mpeg, dat), MP3, MP2, M4A, MP4; WAV, AU; WMA, WMV, ASF; AVI; AAC; OGG; APE; VQF; FLAC;
Personally, I use it as follows. Install it, convert all required music tracks, then uninstall. If I get new music tracks at another time, I install again, use then uninstall afterwards; but that's just me.
