You probably shouldn't announce to the world that your about to pull off an insurance job, so I would advice you just delete this post.

To answer your question, if the phone is reported stolen, it is likely to be blocked on all UK networks. This is done by blocking the individual IMEI number which is linked wth the individual handset. There is currently a big debate as to whether this is being done quickly or effectively enough, but still, you leave it down to chance.

If it is reported broken, they will want the phone back.

And in the case it is reported lost, I assume they will still block the IMEI.

Now, changing IMEI numbers is illegal also in case you are wondering.

Hope that helps. Daz.

ive known people to do insurance jobs here in Australia. In all of those cases, none of the phones have been locked.

Yes, don't buy it as it will either be blocked if reported lost or stolen, or as already stated if broken they will want the 'broken' phone back.

Don't bother with the mate's phone, save up and buy a new one or a secondhand one off a reputable seller on ebay or off here.

Unlocking the phone just means it can accept the relevant sim cards.

It will not change the fact that the IMEI number of the phone is still known to the network.

Insurance jobs like this are illegal, so I really wouldn't go around talking about them too much. You should make sure your mate is aware of this, and only if he is willing to sell it really cheaply should you consider taking the risk.

Cheers, Daz.

Incidentally, as far as I am aware ALL phones reported lost or stolen in the UK are automatically blocked and blacklisted through the IMEI number.

It should also be noted that as far as I know there is no way of changing the IMEI of a K800. Even if you had an older phone (such as the K750 or W800) where you can theoretically change the IMEI number it is a) Not easy to do especially for a relative novice and b) Illegal in the UK with a 1 year prison sentance attached.

Basically if you buy that phone you will effectively have bought a phone that will currently not work and is likely to never work on the UK network.

You should also be aware if u place ur sim card in blocked mobiles that there will be some damage to ur sim card. So dont even go there lol If u go abroad the phone should work but not never in the Uk.

I'm not so sure about this damage you speak of... In fact, I'd go as far as to say it's probably a myth.
