Are you wearing them correctly? They are meant to be placed in the ear duct not like the ones supplied with the K800i

there are many like you!I have the same problem.hpm-70 is not as loud as original k800`s headset. Is strange because on k750/w800/w810, hpm-70 is louder then k800/k750 `s headset. On k750,W800 and W810(with hpm70), cristal sound, lot of power great superbass but on k800 hpm-70 is very slow.I think is a bug and I hope SE will fix this with next firmware.

I have R1CB001, what updates has it got from that and would it improve my ear piece?

The differences in the firmware are described here: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=124349&start=0

I wouldn't expect any differences in sound quality to be honest, although you never know, you might be lucky and find that it does do something.

I've encountered this problem before, when i bought a fake HPM-70 which is made in China. We can't visually recognise which one is genuine, which is fake one, as they have exactly same appearance.
With the fake HPM-70, the sound is not loud enough and gives bad sound quality.
