> w800i predictive text problem

for some reason my phone keeps losing its predictive text function and although pressing the star button does change the little icon,it doesnt actually change the way it types.
the only way that i can get it working again is to do a restore and then it only works a couple of times before it switches back again and i cannot change to predictive again.
does anyone have any ideas as to what could be wrong as i hate texting without the predictive function turned on.

went to do an update yesterday and was told that it already has the latest version whatever that may be.
