I read some things about the later k750's camera and how it's worse than the older models. I guess one main issues is the digital zoom. You get no zoom at highest res, and only up to 2.5x at vga.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that all new models use the same zoom feature, and I think this is similar to 'Smart' zoom instead of 'Precision' zoom in Sony digicams. Sorry I can't explain the difference between the two but according to reviews, 'smart' zoom has more detail than 'precision' zoom.
Having noted that below are three pictures. The first is a 2.5x vga res from my k750 (about 3 weeks old), the next is a 2.5x vga res from an older k750, and the last is a 4x vga res from the same phone.
Now I'm not a photographer and this is not a test done under laboratory conditions. But I hope we get a little more insight (a some feedback as well) on why SE changed the camera.
BTW all settings are at default except for the zoom (no macro shots). I cannot tell any difference in quality of the 2.5x shots, except that the one from my (newer) k750 seems to have blurred the background a bit.

Just to correct you I have R1n0035 Firmware and I can have Full zoom i-e 4x Zoom at all sizes ven on 2MP. Its another thin that zoom is useless as it really degrades the pic quality very badly

Yes you are correct about digital zoom quality. That's why I tested (or tried) to see if there is any change or improvement in this change. Because who'd want a more limited zoom anyway, if the quality is the same.
Besides it might not be firmware related at all. It could possibly be in the hardware.
Was your phone bought before May this year?
