I know its a bit late, I'm very slow.

But I'm looking to connect my PS2 up for online gaming.

Well, I found this diagram...

I was thinking, could I buy a PS2 network adapter thing (the one that sits on the back of the PS2) and instead of buying a router, just plug the cable from that straight into my wireless network adapter when I'm not using my computer?

Like so...

So instead of...

PS2 Network Adapter > Router (PC and PS2) > Wireless Network Adapter

To this...

PS2 Network Adapter > Wireless Network Adapter (PC not on)

So switching the Wireless Network Adapter between my PC and PS2 depending on what I want to do.

If so, will I recieve the full connection that my PC does from the same adapter?

Will it be running from the same connection and company?

Are there any extra costs, both to connect it up and play online and also fees to play games?

Also, will I have to buy another cable or can I use the one that my wireless adapter is connected to my PC by? (Ethernet?)

Also, will I need anything else hardware/software/codes wise?

i use to have this, all i had was the network adapter and a RJ45 cable (i think that was the cable) and plugged it in to the back of my pc without a router. i did have to get another PCI card though but these are only a few quid. hope this helps.

If by wireless network adapter you mean a wireless modem router with ethernet ports as well then yes, theres no reason why it shouldn't work at all either with your PC switched on or off.

If it's just a modem of some kind with USB and Ethernet outputs (like an NTL cable modem for example) then probably not, you'll need to feed the modem into the primary WAN input of a router first.

@ Cycovision...

Its a 'Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter' that is currently connected via a cable to my computer, and is sending/recieving signals to/from a bigger router box downstairs.

So I want to just take the cable from the computer that is also plugged into my Wireless-G and plug it into the Sony Network Adapter.

The answer to your original question is yes, it should work.

I've just realised that the other end of the cable shown is a USB plug, so I will need to buy a new cable that has the other plug at both ends.

Ok thanks all, just found this...

So it proves that it can be done!

Just a Sony Network Adapter and a new cable to but then...
