Hi people,
I´m considering buying a N70 on the web from a guy however the phone is locked to 3. He said he´s visited a few mob shops but they wouldnt unlock it and he doenst know how to do it. How can i unlock it? Is there a tutorial for that? Can somebody help me? I´ve never unlocked a phone before and this would be my first symbian phone.
Thx a lot!!

It is not (yet) possible to unlock Nokia bb5 phones, like the N70, at an unlock shop.
The only way these phones can be unlocked, is with the code, that can be bought from the original provider.

No, I mean the network, in this case 3. I suppose, the owner should buy this code from the network and sell the phone unlocked. I'm from the Netherlands, in my country only the first owner can buy this unlock-code from his network provider.
If I were you, I wouldn't buy this phone, as long as it's locked, unless the owner promises you to get you the unlock-code from 3 and you know him and you're sure, you can trust him.
But when he's told you, he visited mob shops, to get the phone unlocked, then maybe he isn't the first owner either ? Or he thought, the shops would do it for less money, or quicker ?

Thx for the help!
I dunno, he did not give any details. He only said he´s been to a few stores and they werent able to do it. He also added on a message that the software for unlocking it would get to a store in 3 months top. However, i live in brasil and the guy who´s trying to sell me the phone is also from here. I see now that he probably bought the phone in uk and then got back to brasil, but the phone is locked and he can´t unlocked it because he would have to go to a 3 shop (uk) in order to do it. He´s probably trying to get rid of a phone he can´t use. Thats why the price is good. He´s a f*cking SCAMMER!!

It's possible he didn't know these phones are not so easy to unlock, people are used to walk into a mob shop with a locked phone and five minutes later, they walk out with an unlocked one

.
Of course professional unlockers all over the world are trying to develop software to unlock these phones and an unlocker here in the Netherlands told me, the software (plus hardware) to unlock these phones could possibly reach the market within a few months, but he thougt it would be very expensive, he said :
"As I'm not a millionaire, I'll not be able to buy it for my shop, i'll have to wait, till the price drops."
Nobody knows when this will be, so it's a risk to buy these phones locked, maybe then can be unlocked in three months, maybe in six, who knows ?
As I'm from the Netherlands, I don't know, whether it's possible to to get the unlock code from a British provider, when you're abroad, maybe one of our UK members knows this ?

3 told me that the original contract owner of the handset can request an unlock code for £15. This is subject to any minimun term on the contract being paid off in full upfront. The network has a record of who the original owner is through the imei of the handset and they will only release the unlock code to them.
