> cheapest way to call abroad?

my dad needs to know how to call italy abroad (to a mobile) for as cheap as possible. it is quite expensive using orange pay/g with the standard thing and so is landlines. is there any other way?

Yes there are several very good ways - try the following
www.telestunt.co.uk or
www.telediscount.co.uk You enter the access number and then dial the full country code ie +39 for Italy. I am paying around one pence per minute to call Asia, Australia etc and the minutes are coming out of my mobile's inclusive contract time!
Regrettably, Italy looks expensive at the moment - 25 pence to a mobile - but only one pence per minute to a landline. You can also anter the access number in your mobile say - Italian land line from UK mobile call 0844 861 65 65pp0039XXXXX# where "p" is a pause and "#" pound sign should be placed at the end
Keep an eye on them as they give special offers every few weeks.

hmmm cheers. 2nd one seems better. 25p a min from a mobile to a mobile. hes on orange so will he get surcharged or something? ... how much will it cost in total per min?

That I dont know - I am on Orange and O2 and they change to try and keep up with these low cost options - You need to call and ask - what surcharge there will be for the 0844 prefix. I have used telestunt for around four years now from landlines and mobiles and it has made a hell of a difference to my bills..
