Hi people. I can't get WLAN on my P990 to work.
I have tried for the past 2 days and searched high and low on various forums but nothing seems to work.
At work the IT guy set my P990 up and it would connect to the network but when I tried to visit the
www.bbc.co.uk , it did not work - "Couldn't find remote server". I was busy at work so didn't get much time for further investigation.
I tried using it at open hotspots on the way home and although it connected again (without even entering any account information), when I tried to browse to bbc, it did not work. Same message "Couldn't find remote server".
I then tried another open hotspot - same problem.
Then at home I tried on my network - same problem. I even turned all encryption off but still the same problem.
My work network and home network are both type "b". I don't know what the open hot spots were.
I have tried every setting on my home router but to no avail. I am just about ready to throw my P990 at a brick wall as hard as I can
Please help!!!!!!
My P990 is a vodafone one with default firmware. I can sure web sites and wap sites over 3G and GPRS using the appropriate vodafone accounts that came preinstalled...
Please please help.....
Boomah.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Since I posed the original message I have tried two more (different) hot spots. Still get the same error message.
I'm sure I've set something up wrong - I just don't know what it is. I mean, when you connect to a open hotspot without any encryption on, it doesn't even ask for settings - it just connects..
What am I doing wrong?
Is it possible I have a dodgy phone?
Cheers, Boomah.

Why don't you post your settings here -- both for the phone and your access point.

@boomah
one possibility is that you have inadvertently selected a proxy server in your settings. Look at Connection Manager>Settings>Internet Accounts
Now select the wlan accounts and then select Proxy for that account (menu option when you open the settings for that account) if a proxy has been selected then unselect it

Thanks for the replies guys.
I checked and there is no proxy set.
Its a good idea to post my settings. I'll post my home settings later.
For the work ones the IT guy is off today but on friday he gave me the
SSID,
Channel,
Passphrase, and
Key.
I did a search for the SSID and found it. I clicked on it and was prompted to create an account.
In the account I just gave a standard "Work" name, Network name was auto filled in with the SSID I searched for.
I have tried both Open and Shared (as I wasn't sure which to use) and entered the Hex WEP Key for both.
Ad hoc channel isn't required but it was set to 4 automatically.
I am not sure what the passphrase was for. I did have a look at the 802 authentication method but that wanted a user name as well as a pass word and the IT guy said that wasn't the one anyway.
The thing I don't get though is how I can connect to open hotspots on my laptop just by selecting them (in Win XP) and everything works fine. I select them on my P990 and I connect fine, but I can't surf any websites.
I know it'll be something I've done wrong, its just infuriating I can't figure it out!
Cheers, Boomah.

Hi guys. I know it has been posted before but I thought I would update this thread as well.
I changed the accounts so that power saving was turned off (the only option I hadn't explored earlier) and now I am surfing happily over wi-fi. Thank goodness for that.
A bit of a strange option but glad to have found the solution. Thanks to everyone who helped.
Now if only the thing didn't keep restarting itself every day it would be a perfect phone!!!!

I'm having the same problem - ie trying to setup WIFI but it is a bloody nightmare. i get the same "can not find vodfone live server" or "opera can not find etc etc". Sometimes though, in a starbucks the phone will connect fine, and i will get the T-Mobile signup page. Went to a hotel, and it wouldn't connect to a free access WIFI spot, or in an airport.
If the WIFI router is using 802.11 g, will this phone NOT connect or connect at 802.11 b so a slower speed ?
Also can you take me through this Power save option you mentioned, and how/where to go to turn it off as it seems to have fixed the problem you were having.
