Ive had my W800 for over a year now and am really scratching me head at upgrade time. I love candybar phones and ideally would like a W800/W810 successor but there doesnt seem to be one. I like the style and music features of the W series phones but also like a decent camera.

With SE's split with camera/music phones, I looked long and hard at the K800 but I don't like the styling and huge lens cover but conversely the W850 has no lens cover/improved camera and is not a candybar phone.

This leaves me with the following choices and they really are a question of timing:-
1) I love the W800 so do I just stick with it in the hope that a true successor emerges within a year;
2) Upgrade to a nice white W810 and maybe in a year a replacement will have surfaced;
3) Screw SE and join the enemy;
4) Anyone have any other suggestions?
5) Get a W850 cos lens covers don't matter that much and Ill get used to the slider?

Cheers

If you want great sound go for the W850. I promise that you will get use to the slider.

If you need 3G and A2DP go for W850, otherwise choose W810.
Slider is not so different from candybar I think, clamshell or swivel are.

Couldn't agree more Jakester, i have same problem, how to replace my beloved W800. Currently i got caught up with O2 and never recieving my P990, as there doesn't seem to be anything else to replace my w800.. Sony really let us down i think and O2 are just irritating me with the p990.
Problem i see with the k800's was i had to replace my memory stick! not happening as i got a 2gb item.. so maybe the W850 is the way to go..

cheers Oz

Why fix it if it is not brocken? Go for a W810 and hope for the best the coming year. Some new model will surface.

well i replaced my p910 with a spv m5000 as i was bored waiting on the p990.
that contract is up and yet the p990 is still not available on orange and TBH the p990 spec and stability is not so impressive now.
the w950i has caught my eye but means more waiting

That is why we call it the world wide wait.

Well I don't need 3G or A2DP or any other such features so I don't need W850 for that reason. Its a shame the K800 wasn't released as a W model with a nicer case since Im sure the music player must be on par with the W800 but with a better camera!

My gut instinct is saying that a replacement won't be out for a while so I have the choice of a W810 or W850. Im assuming the camera on each is on par with W800 so it's a question of better music phone but with slider or the sleek W810 (and on Orange I can get W810 in white but not W850).

When is the normal winter time for SE to show off a new line up (just in case I hold off a little longer! lol)?

the w850's camera ISNT on par with the W800's; the lack of autofocus matters affects image quality, not only on macro shots, but even those at a good distance may be out of focus if it's not within the sweet spot of the camera's fixed focus lens. go for the k800 if the cam matters a lot, or w850 if the camera's not much of an issue

honestly though, i can't decide for myself if i want the cam or the music player.. i'm leaning more towards the camera though

stick with your w800 and wait. im sure there will be better phones from SE next year. i don't see any phone on the market today that can replace the w800 or k750i.

just my opinion...
