Is the P990 from the carphone warehouse locked to the network you get a tariff on i.e. o2 or voda. Or is it SIM free like the majority of there phones?

The reason I ask this is that I want to get one as a birthday present for someone who lives aboard. I do not want to get one then find out that it has to be unlocked or worse still cannot be unlocked at a local shop for a few pounds.

One final question are P990 from the o2 online shop locked or unlocked for anyone who has brought one as I don not want one from vodafone.

thanks

For what it's worth I asked about this a couple of months ago, before it came out (I assume CPW are stocking it now?) and was told that it would be "generic" (ie, unbranded and unlocked) for all networks except Vodafone. Unfortunately Voda seem to be insisting on branding all their phones, which is one of the reasons I'm putting off upgrading (I like Vodafone as a network, but I don't want their crappy crippled software on my phone).

A friend of mine's girlfriend got one from CPW on Vodafone. When I saw it, realised it's a simfree handset, no branding (nor VF seal on the box).

im due for an upgrade on orange, so can i go into carphone warehouse and upgrade via them on my same contract and get a un-branded p990, or do i have to go through my orange store and get a handset full of their rubbish? just a thought?

Orange is the other exception im afraid...

So you can go to CPW, but it will be the same thing you get from an Orange shop...(when its available that is...)...

Ordered my p990 earlier, will be delivered tomorrow. If you look on their website they are doing a special offer on o2. Free phone, 400 minutes, 100 texts, 250mb data, 4 months half price line rental, 12 month contract. £60 a month.
