> Email on P990 via Voda - It's Driving Me Mental
Bookmark topic
Hi
I have done an extensive search of the forum on the multiple posts on email setups for the P990 and M600. However, none of the posts quite answer the question for Voda users. I found a very helpful post by Masseur on the subject but it didnt really hit the spot (no disrespect intended).
Essentially, I have 2 similar problems with email setup and would really appreciate an answer.
1) Gmail.
I have, as far as I know, ALL the correct gmail account settings on both my phone and on my online account, ie: POP3 is activated.
However, when I try and fetch my email via the default 'Vodafone WAP' service, it hangs and does nothing. I vaguely recall there being a specific SMTP setup for Voda users on my P900 / P910
2) My normal POP3 email
I have a personal email address with pop access. The problem is basically the same as the above.
Excuse my ignorance, I believe I have 4 ways of getting to my email (and indeed, browsing the internet);
i) WAP - slow
ii) GPRS - a bit faster
iii) 3G (if available) - faster
iv) Wifi - fastest
I am using the default WAP settings on my phone (the Vodafone WAP option). However, I dont know how to invoke GPRS or 3G or WIFI to get my email. The client just seems to go back to using Voda WAP.
I'm thinking my connections are setup correctly but all I've done to the phone since I got it was add a Wifi connection (which works for browsing)
Hopefully I am making sense here, but its driving me mad!
Any help appreciated
Thanks

If you have a Voda branded P990 - you should select the "Contract Internet" option as the WAP setting is different and you can not download your emails with it.
edit: I think you have to infact edit the internet account groups as an example, set a new group up called "Vodafone Internet" then choose the connections that should go in there in order of priority:
e.g
1. Wifi
2. Contract Internet
etc..
something along the lines of that anyway although someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Ah, getting a bit closer now. Thanks for that guys
It's now attempting to send the email (Wifi first, then Voda Contract), but I get another error which is saying that it cant send mail 'over this server'. Will try a few more combinations but stuck again.
Why cant email be so much easier to set up??

@liamski
look around at the settings for Voda Contract Internet to make sure its not using a Proxy Server (uncheck this option). I have a spare (

) Voda P990 so will check that tonight if you're still stuck

@ Jah
Thanks - that would be most helpful
I just had a look at the Contract Internet options on my phone and they are Locked so I cannot even see the detail on them, let alone change the proxy server option. Oh well
Please let me know how your Voda p990 is set up
Again, thanks

Bit of an update.
For my personal email address (not the Gmail one), I substituted the ISPs SMTP details with a Voda IP address I had seen knocking round on the internet. It worked! I can now send and receive emails.
I tried doing the same for Gmail, but to no avail. It's still not playing the game.

I'm guessing you entered send.vodafone.net as the SMTP?

@liamski
congrats on the progress.
Funny you should mention Gmail because my Gmail Send stopped working last week. I deleted the account (as I was having problems deleting the email stuck in the Out Box) and my P990 suddenly got faster! I had about 30/40 emails in my Gmail inbox.
