Sorry if this is a totally n00blike question but... alot of the niggles on Symbian phones are easily fixed with third party apps, is this possible on the W850?
Is there likely to be any sort of app which will disable the brightness sensor to keep the screen permanently bright in a dark room or maybe an app to make more use of the orange Walkman illumination feature, ie when someone calls etc?

It makes the screen very dull at nighttime or when using the phone in the dark, I would happily sacrifice some battery life to fix this annoyance!

Well, in my Nokia, when the light is suffcient and the keypad light goes off, the screen becomes brighter. And when its dark, the screen becomes less bright. I guess its like that in all phones.

Why would the screen be bright under dark conditions? Tes it yourself. Put the brightness to 100% and look at the screen in complete darkness, it'll strain your eyes a lot.
