> Difference between W850i and K800i audio?
Bookmark topic
There seems to be a heated debate going on at another forum I go to. One guy is saying that the K800i has a better sound because it has a 72 polyphonic tone as compared to the W850i 40 tone.
Anyone know what makes the W series a better sounding phone? Also do polyphonic tones determine realtone quality.
Many thanks for the help.

W850 has a Walkman branded music player.
K800 has a non-branded Walkman music player.
The Walkman branded music players tend to have that extra (though not that important) feature or two.
As far as I'm aware both the K series and W series have the same music/sound quality. Differences can though be heard by mistake of using different headphones. For example the default box K series heardphones and the Walkman headphones with the W series, being slightly better. Therefore giving the impression that the W series produces better quality sound.

how could this be a question/ comparison? there's no doubt W850 wins the audio quality and it has to be a reason why it's a Walkman Branded phone..

^ I agree and thats the way it should be, but...
My K800 is better than my Ipod Nano and also compared to some Walkman phones, though I admit I have not tried or used the W850/W900...

I agree with you . I have the W800 and W850i and my wife has the K800. I was wondering what makes the W850i better though? Is it a firmware codec thing or what?

i'd believe there must be something different on the firmware's codec on both device. but don't take my word seriously..

Not always true.
K750 sounds better than a W800 (if each phone gets its respective latest official untweaked firmware). The W800 has hissing noise when the Walkman player application is started.
Luckily, there's the FAR manager for W800 that can tweak the sound drivers to get rid of the hiss.
