'Foldable screens and new input technologies mean smartphones could soon kill off the traditional PC, Symbian executives claim'

I nearly fell off my chair laughing! Honestly, what a claim to make. They obviously weren't thinking about the P990 when they came up with this

Yeah, I can imagine that you might not see as many people using laptops on the train / plane in the future as smartphones continue to evolve but replace the PC? No chance!

Besides, you can already get laptops running Windows XP that are almost as small as some smartphones and, with the addition of a docking station and external CD Drive, have almost all of the hardware functionality of a laptop.

It's an absolutely ridiculous claim!

@Tmag

Macs too mate! The implication is that you no longer need a computer of any description in the home, just your trusty brick running Symbian OS!

The way things are going, i definitely do not think a smartphone could be a replacement to a full fledged pc! But who knows about the future? May be 15-20 years from now.....

I don't see that happening. A PC is used for way too many things, I don't think mobile smart phones will ever catch up.

Before I owned a PC I actually had P910. I used the P910 it as my "computer" but now that I own a REAL PC I realise how many things I've missed out on. Simply put the Symbian OS or any other mobile OS cannot compete with a PC for functionality and ease-of-use.

Was quite impressed at my cuz's PSP when I 1st saw it but 1 game of NFSMW & I was sure I'll neva want 2 spoil my experience of a game by playing them on a small devide. Non of the games would look as good on a device without a good GFX card nor be as playable without the other Hardware.
Symbian is just an OS like Windows, Linux & Mac which need the Hardware 2 make it work...more the better.
2 enjoy Vista U'll need even more than Windows...1st it was just the CPU...then came the GPU 2 make it better & now the PPU "AGEIA PhysX"
All the claim is pointless unless U ve those tiny hardware, with the same performance, 2 support it & when that happens...may be.
