Hey,
Is it possible to send/receive messages with WAP over GSM?
Unfortunately I don't have GPRS (my service provider doesn't offer it yet, and it's still a bit pricey for a poor student)
Theoretically though, shouldn't I be able to send mms over GSM? I know it would be ludicrously slow, but is there a reason why it's fundamentally not possible?

The network I use is Vodafone, (through Cellular Operations)
Do you know if it's possible through them? I've had a poke around on their Live! site and got the auto-config instructions sent to my phone, but I presume this will just set the thing up to use a GPRS setup..?

You won't be able to use the Vodafone U.K. settings for MMS over CSD, they are for GPRS only. If you want to use MMS over CSD then you will have to find an MMS server that you can connect to over CSD - and because the charging for MMS cross network hasn't been finalised yet, your receipient will have to log onto the same MMS server to collect the MMS. It's a lot of work for what it is.
Ask Cellops when they will be able to offer GPRS and use the free Vodafone MMS service (until next February).

Thats a contradiction my friend - CSD uses a GSM network - how else apart from SMS, GPRS or high speed data (which is CSD but hey - at a higher speed) could data be sent??
CSD = circuit switched data - this is a data call used for eg wap or sending an e-mail with a data rate of 9/6 or 14/4kbps.
HSCSD = high speed upto 28/8kbps.
CDS uses (in the UK) a GSM network to transmit this data. eg a dedicated line but for data transmission rather than voice.
Sending an e-mail via CSD takes about a minute - so IF u could send an MMS via CSD as u said it would take about 2-3mins.
But using GPRS is much more efficiant & cost effective. As u know with GPRS u only pay for the amount of data usend/receive - not for the time it takes to send etc - and for high speed it would be about half the time but at a higher cost because of the service.
