> Interview with Orange! (Got THe JOb)
Bookmark topic
I have a phone interview with orange in few days. Just want to know if any body has been through it or if any body has any tips for me.. I'm really looking forward to get a job at this place as its closer to my university and there are alot of other advantages of this..
What are the sort of things they could ask me? I have no experience as sales person previously therefore I have already failed to get a job at currys for a similar position..
So I might have to answer a few questions differently. I had considered customers satisfaction previously while answering the questions but this time I guess I'll have to be more like a business man and to act like a person who can squeeze alot of money from customers...
Any comments will be helpful
Cheers

1. The first thing they'll be looking for is how you sound, come across, and behave on the phone. After all, you haven't got a cat in hells chance of selling something if you sound like you don't know what your doing.
So firstly, put on your best sales voice! But don't over do it, be yourself...You need to be freindly, confident and sure but not cocky.
Make sure sure you know EVERYTHING about Orange, not just the specific phones it supplies and the basic tarriff structure including current PAYG deals blah blah blah., but also the brief history of the company, it's recent mergers and take overs, how many dedicated and independant stores sell orange products and services etc etc.. Basically as much as you can possibly absorb in the time you have!
This way, you'll instantly appear more confident because you ARE more confident! You're well prepared.
2. Prepare some good 'buts'. And I don't mean buttocks here! For example, when they innevitably ask you what sales experience you currently have, you can say something like 'Well, currently very little BUT...' and then come out with stuff that you have done that might be related in some way. Have you dealt with the public in any way at all in the past? Public speaking at school? Part time job in a shop, pub or garage? Helped freinds and family sort out their computer or mobile phone problems? Done any courses or presentations?
Doesn't matter really as long as it is related in some way and you're not lying! The point is that again, you were prepared for the question, you told the truth but turned a negative into a positive by demonstrating the GOOD points about you, the stuff that you CAN do!
3. Ask THEM lots of questions, but only if and when it seems appropriate to do so. This serves several purposes, it obviously shows that you're genuinely interested in the job but it also shows that you can think on your feet. Job interviews are always a nerve-racking experience but try to think of them as just another normal conversation. In a normal conversation, both people ask questions and both people answer questions. That's what makes it natural. if you can try and create a similar raport in an interview, the interviewer(s) will feel much more drawn to you than someone who is answering questions robot-style.
There's loads more tips I could give but I think you've got the picture. All business people sell stuff one way or another and if you're going to try and sell stuff, you have to start by selling yourself. And we all know that a good salesperson has an answer for everything so just make sure that you have too
Good luck!

Being a Sales Manager, i would say the most important things i look for when doing any kind of interview is: friendly, approachable, confident, good negotiation skills and full of energy (but not so much as your about to start bouncing of the walls) ha also try code mimic what there saying with reflective conversation, talk to then a professional but friendly manor without overstepping the mark! If you need any help mate, PM me and i'll help as much as poss! :)

Great response so far, I was only expecting brief replies such as good luck mate!
But Im Impressed and the comments so far have been useful and Im going to read over them couple of times again.
I've had an interview over the phone in the past aswell as in the store, so Im guessing I will be required to carry out basic mathematical calculations.
I have expierence of dealing with customers at a rugby stadium and concerts. I am a talktive person and good at pursuading people to buy a particular computer/mobile or any other digital equipment as I love technology!
My weakest point so far is that I might not be available for the hours they require me for. They need me to work 30 hours a week, I'm a full-time university student.. Thats the reason Why currys refused me I hope Orange can sort something out.
Otherwise I've already got the backup temporary job from Royal Mail for xmass sortings.

how suitable this post is for me! don't mean to sound rude toany other comments made but ignore the delving into the company, its offers, and all that jazz. how do I know this?..... because I am the store manager of one of the most succesful orange shops in the company! your telephone interview wil only be based around key questions. the people you will speak to don't even know how the company works or techniques of selling etc.
whether you've done retail or not doesn't matter just think great service. they will base questions around your experiences in dealing with difficult situations, team work, great customer service etc. tell me what job you've had and ill explain what I mean.
