iy P990 is a brilliant phone, overall.

But right now I have an annoying problem in that the PC synch software (version 1.2.15) sometimes deletes a large number of my contacts & notes from the phone, even though they have not been deleted or changed on the PC.

Doing a "forced synchronization" puts everything back, but after a while a new synch will happily delete the items again.

This is mostly annoying since lots of the contacts in question are stored as quick dial numbers, and they get removed from the quick dial function when they get removed from the contacts list.

There seems to be a pattern to it in that most of the removed contacts are ones that I have had for a long time, and that recently added contacts are more likely to "survive".

Anyone else recognize this problem?

The phone organizer software is at R3B01, which seems to be the most recent version.

The Outlook is version 2003, and the contacts are locally stored, not on an exchange server. Also, the total number of contacts is around 1400, and the synch software usually deletes some 1200 of these.

I always do a manual sync.. whether to overwrite the phone, or PC..

so far no problems with it.

I will try to have the progarm ask for me to resolve conflicts, let's see if that works. Luckily, I have used a backup to let me go back to the nicely configured phone state.

Did not help -- I cannot make the smartphone software ask me if I want to replace/remove/add particular contacts or items. It just marches ahead and does it

Only control that I find is when to start the synch.

Did you click on the cross on the right of the sync button?
That is where you can select manual options.

Yes, and the only option for manual I find is when to start. In the "conflict" options there is no manual override. Do you have one? Which is your version of the software?

My version is 1.2.15

Click the cross, go to settings, and select the folder you wish to backup to..
click advanced sync, and choose overwrite Phone, PC or Merge..

then click synchronise...

Yes, that's what I do. Overwrite phone typically preserves all contacts -- but also makes synch meaningless, since I want to edit & add data on the phone quite often

Funny - though that one would be gone by now. It's an old P900 and even P910 issue in smartsuite.
What -might- help is to repair your exchange pst. Howto: do a search in Outlook Help for 'repair inbox'. That will give you directions.
Good luck.

I did a repair pass, and all of my various .pst files were broken in some way or another apparently. Let's see if that helps...

First synch after the repair went back to deleting 1223 contacts.
