Mobile phones for sale
> Can I sell a phone that is still on contract?
Bookmark topic
I have a t39m on Orange that I want to sell. I have just moved house to an area that has no signal at all, one bar at most. The phone is now useless as it drops calls after 30 seconds and won't send texts.
I still have 5 months of contract to run. I don't want to pay £25 a month for a useless phone.
So can I sell the phone and contract to someone?
Anyone want to buy it??
All advice appreciated.
Simon

You can sell the phone but you will still have to pay the line rental on the contract till it runs out

How do I transfer ownership? Through Orange I assume. Do I then get to transfer the contract, phone and everything else?
Can I transfer to a pay as you go tariff to save money?
Thanks

In theory you can transfer your contract, but unless you have a really good phone number it wouldn't be worth the trouble from the buyers point of view.

You can transfer your contract to another provider. But selling the phone its self before the contact is over is illegal. Unfortunatly not many people want to buy someone elses contract.

Selling your phone before your contract is over is NOT illegal.
Your contract commits you to subscribing for 12 months on some tariff (most even let you change the tarrif). The phone is yours.
You can trasnfer your NUMBER to another network, but:
(1) Callers to your number will be billed as though the number was still on the original network (potentially more expensive for your callers)
(2) Unless you have a really good number it just isn't worth it
You can transfer your CONTRACT (still on the original provider) to another person, but:
(1) Both you and the new "owner" will have to go through loads of hassle
(2) Unless you have a really good number it just isn't worth it

Only the case if you are on O2 - as far as I'm aware - I u port onto orange - u will be billed to call an orange number, I do remember reading that BT used to charge as you stated
