My P990i battery time was really terrible, until I turned down the backlight brightness and turned off 3G.
That last bit was the most significant. As soon as I turned it off, the battery would just run out a lot more slowly. With 3G turned on, it would run out in less than a day with 1-2 calls and normal business operations.
I wish there was a way to quickly turn these two features on and off. For example, turn on 3G when I want to connect to the web or download email and immediately turn it off again.
The same goes for backlight brightness - I wish there was a quick way to turn it to 100% if I'm outside and can't see what I'm doing...

Go to Control Panel-->Connections-->Mobile Networks click on the top menu and select GSM/3G networks. Here you get the option of selecting GSM only, 3G only or GSM and 3G.
Hope this helps

Typical use one day last week:
- BT on for 12 hours
- 80% brightness setting
- 3G signal 80/90% of the time
- 20 mins of web browsing
- 10 mins of PIM etc
- 40 mins of calls
- standby for 16 hrs
Battery life at the end of the day: 27%

oferlaor,
Funny you should mention these two settings that badly need shortcuts.
I have icons to both backlight and mobile networks on my shortcuts pane.
At night, the screen is just too bright even on 50%, and in daylight, nothing less than 90% will do. Oh, well.

Only one big problem here. I want UMTS! Without it is it no free calls over the UMTS network, slow internet browsing and e-mails that uses years to download. The backlight is at 40 % but still, the battery sucks! I have a BST-33 950 mAh battery, the small one, but Sony Ericsson won't give me the BST-34 battery. They say that P990i always should have been delivered with BST-33, someone just typed wrong when they wrote it. Weird that they made the same mistake so extreamly many times...!
Is it possible to buy the BST-34, or is it not for sale yet?
