i am looking at buying one of these (or o2 xda atom exec)

i know something similar to this q has probable been answered before, but i have a d-link 802.11g/2.4GHz wireless router, what id like to know is....will the p990's wifi work with this type of router, or will it not connect to it as the p990i is 'b' and not 'g' like my modem? If someone has a similar specd router, maybe they can tell me.

i dont want to buy one then find it isnt compatible with my modem....

thanks in advanced

yes, it will work fine

I've tried both Linksys WAG54G and Netgear DG834PN, with and without WEP-security - both works well with my P990.

Good Luck

thanks bjorne

so it doesnt matter whether its 'g' or 'b' (the p990 being on b) it will still work correct?

cheers

edit: also, its going to be my first time using wifi, is there some sort of range (like 10m,20m etc like some bluetooth usb dongles have a certain range they work in...) that the phone needs to be within to use with the modem?

thanks

DEPENDS. if your wireless router is set to be "G" only then the p990 will not work. by default it will work.

g routers are backwards compatible with b by default, but the settings might need to be changed in your router. what is the model of your dlink by the way? (ps pm me when you get your phone, as i can show you how to do cool things with the dlinks )

dude, that is what i said. hardware wise, it is backwards compatible, but settings can be restricting.

I have a D-Link Di-624 AirPlusXtremeG 802.11g and it works fine with the P990i, using WEP and MAC address filtering.

The routeur indeed has to be configured not to be in "g only" mode.

However, I haven't managed to have WPA security working, but I suspect this is a problem more with the firmware of the router than with the P990. I had a similar problem with a different device.

Hope this helps.

@johnex

my dlink router is this model:
d-link DI-524

Ive tried getting the laptop connected to it, but thats not working, its working with the desktop pc though...as its plugged straight into that

Do the standard settings need to be changed at first? Or is it all set up for the p990 to be compatible with it?

thanks
