Hi Peeps,
Was in one of my Carphone Warehouses today, just browsing around.

Went to the desk to ask to have a look at a Rokr.

There was a guy stood next to me trying to get a contract, he had a credit/debit card, couldn't see properly.

Any way, hands it over to the person serving him and she seems a little confused.

So she walks off with the card.

I just carry on playing with the demo phone...

Then she comes back and tell the person that the card is fake and that she can not sell him a contract.

You should have seen the guy run out the store, was really crazy the way he just legged it in front of everyone.

Any way, I ask the girl how she thought he was dodgy, she said she checked it in one of the UV light machines (forgot the real name), and there was no hologram or summot!

I'm just wondering, how do these fraudelent bastards manage to get hold of these dodgy cards, they must some how be making them???

Card cloning machines etc?

Have you seen any similar things to this? Share your stories.

Yeah it's card cloning, and yeah UV does tell the fake from real ones, same with ID I've been told (Argos staff training) but some are minutely different so even if scanned with a UV machine they will show up real.
Lucky the guy wasn't extremely serious or he could have pulled a knife or gun out or anything

what a silly itch...

why tell him its fake?

call the cops,

photocopy it, process the contract as normal.. police will arrive before its finished.

guy arrested for trying to obtain goods by deception.

job done.

I think 'fatrge' is the refined, French side of Fatreg, whilst 'Farteg' is the slightly less refined version!

Back on topic, I've seen many a programme on 'skimming', where the info on the magnetic strip can be read by card readers, and you can put someone's credit/debit card info then straight onto anything with a magnetic strip - even mobile phone topup cards!

Not sure if you can do this with chip-equipped cards or not though, bet there's a way round that though, and reprogramming software out there somewhere!
