Looks like I have one or more bad pins on the phone's bottom connector. Lately, when I first plug in a wired stereo handsfree, one of the following three events will occur (with equal likeliness):

everything works perfectly
the handsfree is recognized, but only outputs sound on the left channel
the handsfree is never reconized

In the case of the latter two, a little wiggling of the handsfree connector will temporarily resolve the situation.

I've tried cleaning the pins on both the phone and handsfree with some Q-tips and rubbing alcohol, to no avail.

Also, I've tried both the original HPM-70 and my new HPM-82, and the symptoms are exactly the same.

Looks like yet another trip to the dreaded service center is in order. I wonder in what awful condition my phone will be returned to me?

Do you mean "cracking" literally (as in something in the phone is cracking apart) or figuratively?

Let me ask this - is this a common problem on the new FastPort phones, or are these just a few isolated cases?

I didn't mean it "literally"

I've seen mine and one of my friend's W800i having the same fast port connection problem....

As much as I hate to do it, I will send in my W810 for repair, just as soon as I beg/borrow/steal a backup mobile. Luckily I have a contact at USA that can expedite the matter.
