Dear SMan users out there, please help me.

I guess all of us are Sman users so this should be an easy one.

I have SMan installed on the Stick, and every time I unplug my Stick, the program shuts down, of course. I would like to move it to the Internal memory, but I have a lot of info in InfoStore, and dont know how to back it up. Once I tried to export the info to a CSV and importing it back, but didnt work out. Is there maybe a file which I need to save, and copy it back after I reinstalled SMan?

Thanks

Ben

May I suggest you do the following...

Disclaimer: Do this at your own risk, I will not be responsible for any problems you may have.

You will need the SMan .SIS installer and for recovery purposes, a memory stick card reader for recovery. If you do not understand the below instructions, please do not proceed with it and get help from somebody who understands the below instructions.

To move SMan from D: to C:...

1. Run SMan and use SMan's File Manager to create a .ZIP file for the folder "D:\\System\\Apps\\SMan" and keep the .ZIP file in drive "D:\\anyname.ZIP" (replace "anyname" with something you can easily remember).

2. Then quit SMan and re-install SMan into drive C: and Symbian will automatically uninstall the old copy from D: and create a new copy on C:.

3. Re-run SMan (from drive C:) and go to "D:\\System\\Apps\\SMan" and move every file in there to "C:\\System\\Apps\\SMan" and immediately quit SMan.

4. When you re-run SMan after moving the files, you should find all your old settings running on the copy of SMan installed in drive C: (please, check if the InfoStore data works).

If all fails, uninstall SMan from C: and you should then take your memory stick, and insert it into a PC, then unZIP the "D:\\anyname.ZIP" file back to "D:\\System\\Apps\\SMan" (please replace drive D: with whatever drive letter the memory stick is assigned to on your PC.

Hope this helps...

Hi

Thanks for your kind answer.

I dont have the card reader with me in the office today, so I only went as far ahead as zipping the SMAN folder, but it didnt succeed. There were two files which were not "readable", I guess they are being used, so they cannot be accessed. Shutting down SMan might solve it, but I am zipping with SMan, so that is also not an option. I guess my only available chance would be to have the reader with me, and do this offline, I mean the zipping.

Isnt there like only ONE file which holds all the Infostore database? So then I could just copy that single file and be done with it?

Thanks

Hi

The only way of succeeding was as follows:

While still in SMan, go to Infostore, and export database to CSV. BE CAREFUL, your data is not encrypted with any password, and can be easily accessed by a 5 year old...

Uninstall SMan from Memory Stick, install it on Internal memory, go to Infostore, and import database. Your data is again in InfoStore, but be aware at this point its not password protected either. You need to re-create your password from within InfoStore. When done, be sure to delete the CSV file with all your personal info in it unprotected.

First I saved the whole SMan folder as ZIP, uninstalled, reinstalled, and tried to unzip the old contents into the folder, but of course it failed? Why? Because SMan was running. Since I have no other ZIP-File managers, (I dont trust apps other than SMan), I had no chance of going around it, and since the internal memory is not accessible with anything else than SMan, I gave up on that lead, and went the export-import way.

Thanks for all help, and I am glad it worked out for me. Now hopefuly I wont have to deal shutting down and not having SMan handy

Cheers

Why afraid of try another free zip manager? Jzip is free and you can have SMan shut down during your test.

Hi. Yeah, I guess I could have done that too. But usually I have one utility for one thing, and since SMan does everything for me which includes being a file manager, InfoStore for sensitive info, and a zip utility as well, I didnt even think about having another one on the side. This solution worked like a charm, and I guess this Export/Import function was included in SMan for a reason. The only thing one may need to worry, is the fact that once you import the DB, your data is left with no protection.

Cheers
