You can find details for
any pop (receiving) and smtp (sending) client (pda, computer or whatever) at
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/ext/ext-07.html. Be aware that yahoo! requires you to subscribe to (= pay for) Yahoo! Mail Plus.

Jalf you don't need to subscribe to the Yahoo! Mail Plus.
I'm also a proud owner of a P990i and I've my two yahoo accounts on my phone. They both work perfectly.
To be true I was first thinking that SE put some kind of copyrights code in the P990i for not having access to the Yahoo! accounts but that was just my imagination. I could not set up my Yahoo! mail just like you.
Reason why I was convinced that I could access Yahoo! on my P990i is that it is set up on P910i and still works without problems.
So today I put my SIM back to the P910i for the parameters and could get Yahoo! work on my P990i.
Ok let's go straight to the point :
First, my yahoo accounts are with a .fr extension. Yes, my email addres ends by "@yahoo.fr". French is my mother tongue and that's easier for me to being registered at Yahoo.fr and not .com
That should not be a big deal as it's still the same Yahoo!
In order to be able to check your Yahoo! emails via another browser you have to active that option at Yahoo.
To do so you log into your yahoo account, select options or "settings" (sorry but my Yahoo! accounts and browser are in French, I'm trying to translate the best I can), and choose Mail or POP settings.
Once you're there, you'll just read and check the first circle if I'm not wrong.
There also, you'll be able to get the parameters for incoming and outgoing servers.
Ok now Yahoo! has authorized you to use him everywhere.
In your phone you go to "messages" and on the top you click on the arrow pointing down. Select "parameters" or "settings", then choose "mail account".
Click on "new".
Enter a name for that account, your Yahoo! email address and as type of connexion select POP3.
Go to the title bar and click on the arrow pointing right.
- Incoming server is pop.mail.yahoo.com (mine ends by .fr)
- User name is your Yahoo! login
- Password is your Yahoo! password
Scroll down and choose as group (by clicking on the down arrow on the right of the scrren) the one you use for surfing internet (usually it's "internet")
Go back to title bar and click again on the arrow pointing right.
- Outgoing server is not the one from Yahoo! (smtp.mail.yahoo.com (or .fr)) but the one from your mobile service provider. In my case that is "relay.proximus.be"
Here it's better you call your customer service to ask if you have to pass via a "relay" to get your emails. Most of the time that's the case.
- Scroll down again and just as for the incoming server choose group "Internet"
Very important :
to be able to send and receive emails, your favorite account in your group "Internet" should be the one used for your internet connexions, not the one for wap connexions.
Once everything is done, you need to switch off your phone then restart it.
Well I'm not a technician but think this can help.

Well..I just tried it and it's not working.
I have basic Yahoo account. And when I click on "Pop & Forwarding" link in "Settings", it says "you need Mail Plus account".

What have you set up as outgoing server ? And did you activate the pop3 possibilities in the settings in your Yahoo account ?
This sounds really strange to me as everything works perfectly with mine.
I even have my google account on P990i just like the other accounts. And for Google I used all gmail parameters (pop.gmail.com & smtp.gmail.com) and I use all these account just like my Microsoft Outlook.
Try to write down everything and at each step and let's have a look together.
If I had a screen capture programme like on my P910i I had put some pictures to illustrate.

Season's Greetings, all!
So, Dogmann, is your email @yahoo.co.uk? That could explain it, mine is @yahoo.com. Apparently, different yahoo country email domains heve different policies. I'll give it a go.
By the way, please excuse the delayed response: I've only just realized that on esato, one needs to explicitly bookmark a topic, simply posting doesn't trigger a "watch" as on most forums.
