anyway, i hope these versions of vista aren't the same as the versions of XP, where you can modify some software settings on XP home to make it XP Pro...

All versions of Vista are the same, the home and business versions are just crippled versions of Vista Ultimate. M$ say that this is to allow easier upgrading without having to reinstall or do an upgrade installation.
It's a lot harder to unlock the extra features than it is in XP, although I shouldn't think it'll take the hackers too long to sort something out. The only potential problem is that WGA is going to be tighter which means that even if you can unlock the extra features, M$ could switch them off again if you don't have the appropriate license and attempt to use any of their online services which require validation.
