Hello there.

Can anyone help me with getting gmail on my k800? It's driving me bonkers. I got the phone on a three contract and used wotanserver.com to wipe all that horrible three nonsense (which worked like a dream btw - thanks!). I've got internet working fine (hurah!), but I just can't get gmail on the inbuilt email client. I followed all the instructions on the main thread in this forum, but it still won't connect - I get "server not found". The SE site has an email configurator that lists all networks other than three which isn't very helpful.

Let me tell you what I've done so far and how I did it cos there's a very high chance that I've done something totally wrong.

Firstly I downloaded three certificates - ThawtePremiumServerCA.cer; Equifax_Secure_Certificate_Authority.cer; ThawteServerCA.cer. I copied them to my phone. If I look in security/certificates/trusted_certificates/ I can see them all there (people talked of installing them which I don't remember doing, so maybe I've missed something there??).

Then I set-up an account. Here are the details:

(basic settings)
Account name: Gmail
Connect using: Three
Email address: me@gmail.com
Connection type: POP3
Incoming server: pop.googlemail.com
Username: me@gmail.com [same as email address above]
Password: [my gmail password]
Outgoing server: smpt.googlemail.com

(advanced settings)
Your name: me
Signature: K800i
Download S&R: Subjects only
Check interval: 5 min.
Push email: [this is greyed out]
Allow connection: Home network
Copy outgoing: Off
Encryption: SSL [for both]
Outgoing username: me@gmail.com [same as email address above]
Outgoing password: [my gmail password]
Incoming port: 995
Outgoing port: 465

And that's it. I have absolutely no idea what most of these do. I've just got cobbled them together from various posts. So I could well have missed out a very important step. I just can't work it out.

I've tried changing the incoming and outgoing servers to gmail rather than googlemail but I still get the same problem.

Any help very very very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Some of the settings are incorrrect.
Follow this:

Incoming server: pop.gmail.com
Username: me@gmail.com [same as email address above]
Password: [my gmail password]
Outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com

(advanced settings)
Your name: me
Signature: K800i
Download S&R: Subjects only
Check interval: 5 min.
Push email: [this is greyed out]
Allow connection: Home network
Copy outgoing: Off
Encryption: SSL [for both]
Outgoing username: me@gmail.com [same as email address above]
Outgoing password: [my gmail password]
Incoming port: 995
Outgoing port: 465

the outgoing server, because you are sending mail via 3, you may have to change to teh server name of 3.

Try, mine works just fine.

hi contribute!

thanks very much for replying. it's much appreciated.

you've said that I got some setting wrong. i've looked through the new setting you sent. the differences are the incoming and outgoing servers, everything else you have mentioned is the same. Is that right? If so, it still hasn't worked (

You mentioned trying the three server name as the outgoing server. any ideas where I can find that?

Thanks again. Sorry if I'm being a bit thick!
