Hi, was just browsing a foum on the net, and scrolled down to see how active it was through member registered and posts etc and saw this

Our users have posted a total of 5891 articles
We have 254016 registered users
The newest registered user is [removed]
In total there are 17 users online :: 0 Registered, 0 Hidden and 17 Guests [ Administrator ] [ Moderator ]
Most users ever online was 78 on Mon May 29, 2006 2:47 pm
Registered Users: None

The bit im wondering about is the 250,000 members which have only made 6000 threads.

Compared to Esato : Total messages: 1708376 Members: 100957 Currently online: 523 users
Anyone else think its a bit dodgy?

That seems really dodgy to me. Twice the members we've got here and so few topics. Something's not right there.

Here is a link to that forum
I found it looking to see why Palm TREO's 750v's were worth over £350

Think you're looking too much into it perhaps? They might have trimmed back and deleted some threads due to storage costs and bandwidth issues?

Maybe it's a forum that's frequented less currently for whatever reason - a problem with overzealous mods, or spammers, cocky or rude members, none or of the above?

One thing I've learnt from various internet forums since I started frequenting them a couple of years ago (Esato was my first one!) is that they all have their own internal politics, cliques, disagreements/flame wars, and posting styles/habits. Kinda reminds me of the dynamics of the typical workplace!

the database cound have died, member lists are harder to recover as there are so many rows. the member counter can usually be just one row.

Yeah, I think that's the most likely cause too. There's a flight simulation forum I frequent that has something like 300,000 members but people only join up in order to download the free scenery for their flight sims. I think it's quite a common occurance.
