It was briefed out internally at Orange yesterday that the P990 is not being sent out to dealers/Orange shops because of software issues. They have said the most recent shipment from Sony Ericsson has failed quality control and they are awaiting a resolution. Stores will sell through the current stocks but there is no info as to how soon the P990s will start flowing again. Some Orange customer services advisers have been saying that there is a problem with all P990s and that return rates are high.

I hope SE is taking note of this. The P990,like I and a number of people have already stated, is/was a costly blunder by SE. They have lost a lot in this (smartphone) segment of the market since the days of the P800/900/910. Now let's see how they redeem themselves.

We should also bear in mind that Orange's own tinkerings -- ie, branding efforts -- with the P990 appear to have been spectacularly unsuccesfull (as was their case with their attentions on the P910).

Hopefully this kerfuffle will encourage Orange to leave well alone in future -- or to at least employ professionals to do any customisation jobs.

so let me get this right...

Orange issues an internal memo that P990 is not up to standard and therefore not distributing any more units to Orange retail units etc. But when you go on the Orange website, the device is still up for sale??????

Sounds like that memo doesn't apply on them then

Mine goes back to the firm who are SE's authorised repair place today. Will ask them if they would debrand it from Orange. Worth a try.

Okay..but we know the problems are firmware rather than hardware. Therefore, as long as Orange allow updates via SEUS, then this should all be correctable.

Does anyone know if Orange have provided firmware updates in the past for Orange SE phones via SEUS?
