I have tried 3 orange p990i's after discovering a fault. When I use any audio, except voice calls, there is a constant background digital type static crackle. This is apparent when music passages are quiet. It can be heard when the mediaplyer is playing mp3s, radio or video... especially with the sound turned down to 0 and the application still running, or pausing an mp3. It can also be heard in the background of any midi that the phone produces for sound. I have tried with gprs off and in flight mode, also with two wired handsfree and a third party headphone, but the crackle is still there. I have noticed it goes for a moment when pressing the button to use voice dialling while playing an mp3, but comes back after a few seconds.
I wondered if this was unique to orange phones or not. Try pausing or turning down the sound on an mp3 and listen for the static crackle.
Im hoping after the third phone that it might be fixed in a fimware update, as it is ruining quiet passages in mp3s...

mate, try to bring the phone back to orange. Tell them the problem because the phone should not behave like that. Maybe because of the orange branding.

I hear a crackling sound also on voice calls but only on some words pronounced by the counterpart and when the volume is at 0 or 1-2 bars (not tried at higher volume since not needed). Do you hear the same?
It looks very similar to what I heard at the beginning with K750i and before having a f/w fix for this.
What your feedback (try in very silent environment)?
cheers

hi to all,

what is your judgment on audio quality of the p990i at low volume (during voice calls). Does it crackle a little bit? It is the case on mine (on some words when the other party starts pronouncing them) and it reminds to me the K750i before the associated f/w fix
Cheers
