yesterday, i used the video function of the camera for the first time and i noticed that as well as saving the video, it also saved a picture of the first frame of the video.
is this supposed to happen and if so, why ?

Err...thats normal...its for the purpose of identifying a video from other videos when you have many of them.
Don't u see that for the videos in ur computer(when icons are in thumbnail format)

yeah that makes sense but these thumbnails are only visible if accessed through media player (ie. NOT in file manager) and only on videos in the default camera folder (ie. NOT if moved, copied or saved elsewhere).
