Has anyone managed to get gmail to work with the POP3 email function on the phone... My connection keeps timing out and i guess it has something to do with the lack of 'SSL' (not to sure what it is, but there isnt an option for it on the phone)

Is it just me or is this a known issue?

You have to go into messaging-->settings-->Email accounts--> gmail account (or whatever you have called it)--> make sure to check Use SMTP authentication and Use inbox login details.

Next go to advanced--> set secure connection to SSL for both incoming and outgoing.

Hope this helps

Follow the instructions posted here

The outgoing mail requires TLS. This is very important. Do NOT use SSL for the outgoing.

Thanks that did help.... almost.

It now works fine over wifi, but not over GPRS... Does this mean a call to Voda, or is it something else?

bard, are you using the preset Vodafone Mail Incoming and Vodafone Mail Outgoing as your connection settings?
See if you can connect to the Internet using the Vodafone Internet setting instead of Vodafone WAP. If that doesn't work call customer services to check you have the Internet APN.

My internet settings got confusing. I asked Vodafone to send me the settings and they sent me wap, gprs, and internet settings. I had it set on the gprs because the "internet" settings sounded expensive. Turns out they are the same thing using slightly different protocols. Working perfectly now.
Thanks for the help
