> P990 alternative for mac?
Bookmark topic
I have a p910 which is about to die. I was going to get the 990 but have read that it is not compatable with isync (i use mac)
Can anyone help me with my decision?
1. is the isync problem going to be solved soon and i should just wait and get the P990? Would be nice to think that mac compatability would improve too like having internal and external memory show up on desktop so you don't have to transfer everything one by one...
2. if not, can anyone suggest an alternative comparable device? I don't really like the treo. Mostly i need email, contacts and tasks, calendar that i can sync with entourage and audio player like unrealplayer (or works with itunes would be even better)
3. another thing that bothered me was the inability to sync to two different contact folders. for example, have personal contacts at home on entourage and work contacts in an exchange folder at work (also use entourage there). And i would like to have both of them on my phone. If i end up getting the P990 would there be any way to do this or if i don't, what other device would allow this? i know that palm pilot used to be able by assigning different categories in the phone for different contact folders so, i'm really surprised none of these more advanced devices can.
My P910's days are numbered so i really need to make a good choice. any help would be appreciated =)

Go to
www.4smartphone.net. I use this and it works. It is not Apple's fault that SE did not provide a way to sync the phone. SE made the phone and they said that it would be supported under iSync in their white paper but they don't and SE will not do anything about it. This is talked about often in Mac forums on
www.apple.com.

I use 4smartphone as well and its very very good...i heard that it is apple's fault for not release as certain API for isync to allow the phones to communicate it, hence why there has been no 3rd party support either...

please do not quote, use the @username: method instead, as it is totally unnecessary, and makes scrolling impossible on wap. remember this please.
now to the matter in hand, i am sure isync will work with the p990 in the future.

@johnex
on what information are you basing your claim that the p990 will work with isync/the mac platform in the future? please provide links or other data to support your claim.
@trevor
i use a mac as well and hav been very disappointed with the p990's inability to sync (and also the inability for it to hold a connection with the bluetooth system in my car, but that's another issue entirely). at this point, i have not found a satisfactory solution. i have seen some online services to which you can sync your p990 and then sync that service to your mac, but i keep a lot of personal information in my phone and don't trust any online service with it.
i wish i had a good suggestion for you. i really like my p990, but if the next firmware update does not fix the remaining bugs and allow it to pair with my car's bluetooth system, i will be selling my p990 and buying another phone...

@Johnex,
You are speculating and your speculations are therefore worthless unless they are coming from someone in the know at SE. SE made the phone therefore SE should make an a syncing client for it. SE changed the way the phone syncs. It does not use the normal syncML over BT or even IR like everyone else, i.e. Nokia. Nokia's phones, the E61, and E71 (I think) work out of the box with Mac's. HP makes printers, so should Apple make the drivers for those printers?
Get the 4smartphone account and be able to make it happen. I use an M600i and have had no problems with putting my data on the phone. SE is the problem here, not Apple. If you do not believe me I have the emails from SE tech support that show they are putting the blame on Apple even though them make the phones.

@Johnex,
Did you think before you posted? In 10 years? How about even 6 months. Hell, let's make it 3 months. Within the next few weeks to months customers are going to bail on SE, with me being one of them. Here is a fun fact for you. I am a consultant for the US military for new technologies and they were considering the M600i and P990 as replacements for their Nokia's. The key word being "were". I recommended that the entire US military stay with Nokia because SE, not Apple, will not support their phones. You see, the US military is beginning to switch to Apple. So in short SE lost millions, with a big "M", of dollars on their lack of support. So before you speak, you should know what you are saying.

just curios.
Was this info supposed to be classified or something?! Is all this info released for public consumption?
Why and how are you willing to share this kind of info?
I am amazed how easy one could share this kind of info just to show off maybe?!
This could lead to very troublesome stories..WOW.

dude, no one gives a crap about the us army, you guys are just soldiers, nothing more. feel free to stick to your nokias if you want to use imacs at your office, and not a pc like the rest of the world. macs might just not be a plataform that se wants to support. to answer your question, yes, i did think before posting haha.
