How long does Royal Mail Special Delivery take?

Royal mail special delivery is next working day by either 1pm or 9am. They also offer a saturday special delivery.
If you want same day delivery then you need a special courier who price per mile and it normally costs a bomb.

Reason is, I've bought something quite pricey off Ebay and it's taking its time to come. But I don't want to get annoyed with the seller if its a "Royal Mail moment"...
