A report from the European Commission's EuroBarometer finds that mobile phone users rely very heavily on international roaming services, since nine out of ten users opt for that formula when travelling abroad, compared with a very small minority who prefer to buy a new SIM card in the country they are visiting.

At the same time, the use of international roaming services, and in particular the frequency with which mobile phone owners use mobile communication services is limited: a clear majority of users limit their mobile communications when travelling abroad.
The survey demonstrates clearly that excessive communication costs are by far (81%) the main reason why Europeans use their phone less often when travelling abroad. Moreover, almost six out of ten Europeans would be ready to use their mobile phone more frequently when travelling abroad if prices were more attractive.
