Hi!
I wonder if there is any software out there were you can upload a region specific map and simply search for a location without using gprs etc. No need for gps. Just need a software that can find streets on a big map saved on your memory stick.
Iam in need of some software like this because "google local mobile" doesnt seem to find my street or any other street in my region (stockholm), even though the street names are there, correctly placed and spelled.

I'm assuming you have a Sony Ericsson phone...
If you have old UIQ 2 (eg P900/910) look at:
http://www.lumisoft.net/shop.htm
If you have new UIQ 3 ge P990, M600i, W950, look at:
http://www.visualit.co.uk/index.htm
There are other phone operating systems eg Series 60, Windows mobile etc supported at both links...

You can always join a few JPegs on your PC and then stick it on your memory card and view it in the picture viewer application.
But honeslty mapping software is better - and faster running - way to do this.
For Swedish maps software I think you will have to move to Windows Mobile Platform. UIQ sure doesnt have enough map choices. And even S60 3rd may not have it either.

The only searchable map software for j2me phones that I've found is this one:
http://www.garret.ru/~knizhnik/En_Map.htm#MobileMap
It even uses vector based maps and it's fast!
Very good, and open source
If you don't need the searching or vector based maps vpm2 is the way to go. There is a guide on the web page on how to make your own map ,as well as maps people already created.

Edit --> There actually is one for Stockholm already
