Is there a way to turn the screen off during charging? Mine stays on all night long...

Please read the manual. Page 122-123 on the PDF, aptly named "Backlight".
In short, switch it to Auto.

There is no way to turn off the backlight while the phone is being charged. The "backlight" settings are irrelevant.

It goes off dude ..who said that .I have a p990i and it goes off.
What u have to is, Go in Menu/tools /control panel/device/backlight option and then change the setting in it to -->"Auto"
the light will go off then!

If you take off the charger for a second you have access to these settings.

The screen goes off only while charging when the phone is powered on. I don't think it goes off when the phone is charging when powered off, the light is on in a dim state throughout.
