> P990i Burn in period?

Mite sound like a silly question and i knwo the firmware is to blame for the phones many problems (as well as the lack of ram). But do you guys find your phones get better with age once you have used all of its functions over a long time. In essence do u think its been burned in (similar to burning in a pc) hence making it a lil less of a pain to live with ?

Well its not the lack of ram,What i think it is becoz of the new features added to it and we after using the features begin to know the phone a lot better, it happnes and it appears that we have burned up the phone ,the errors which the phone has will soon get rectified in the coming Firmwares.
And talking abt pain well i think having a new phone has a different feeling altogether!

@Mukul,
You say its not the lack of Ram this is a joke right, read any forum discussing the issues of the P990i and every single one without exception mentions the problems caused by the lack of available Ram. They nearly all mention either installing SwissManager or using the in built task manger to manage Ram. The lack of available Ram to run multiple apps is one of the major problems and a major cause of instability and problems, so i have to disagree with your assumption there is not a lack of Ram as it is very clear there is.
As to burning in as you call it i think this is more people working out how to mange the Ram problem and make their phones more usable and stable.

Actually, Mukul's not ENTIRELY off base w/ his comment. The phone's MAJOR issue is in its memory management. Java based programmes don't like to release RAM. Hence, overtime...the phone's RAM gets depleted. While Swiss Manager is great, it still doesn't SOLVE this riddle.
If these Java / UIQ programmes didn't hold on to RAM, then we would have sufficient (not stellar.....just sufficient) RAM to run the phone without a hitch. So while we ALL want more RAM; more RAM will only keep us going longer without actually solving the real problem. More RAM is like cold medicine. It hides the symptoms, doesn't cure the cold.

@ Bandit
Sorry but i still disagree i have an M600 that i only use as a Music Player which after using i close and use SwissManager to reclaim and free up all the Ram which usually shows 17mb Ram free approx.
Now without touching the phone or using it for anything at all it goes down to 12mb or less so it is not just Java apps or the installed apps that are hogging the Ram the actual OS is leaking Ram like a sieve.
Yes firmware upgrades have greatly improved the situation and made the UIQ3 devices more stable but there is only so much this can achieve, they have not and IMO will not be able to fix the OS and ram problems completely and we have to realise that what was possible with UIQ2 is no longer possible with UIQ3. But of course i wait to be proved wrong on this but some how doubt it.

We're saying exactly the same thing mate. I think I mentioned UIQ being part of the cause of this didn't i? Ah well....regardless...It's a memory management problem.....having more RAM would just hide the symptoms. We don't need more RAM; we WANT more RAM, but we NEED UIQ to fix this bloody leak.

@Bandit
Sorry my brain is a bit fuddled as am on very heavy meds whilst i am glad we have reached the same conclusions i really don't think this problem is able to be solved, improved maybe but solved i doubt it. Maybe the next generation of smartphones will but the current ones will not IMO.
