It seems that Sony do a couple of bluetooth headsets.
One is very reminiscent of the HBH DS970 and is called DR-BT20NX. Importantly, the design is not walkman branded so you M600 users might prefer them. The one I'm interested in though is the DR-BT30Q.
These are small pads that clip onto each ear and hed together by a wire that passes between them. they don;t look like they have a mic but they do.

If anyone has experience of either of these - quality relative to the SE products and compatibility - I'd like to know.
Note that the battery life for the Sony version of the 970 has a claimed battery life of 11hrs playback time and I note some people here getting only 4 from their 970's and being happy with that.

Actually, they're pretty good. Has longer battery life than SE headsets.

It seems to me that these are a good alternative for people who don't like earbuds or for those who wants something more in keeping with their P990 or M600 styling. The Walkman branded headsets might be great, but they're a bit bling for a 40yo.
I prefer arbuds, personally, for the isolation, but it looks like the Sony earbuds are the same as the sonyericsson ones in that they do not have replaceable ear pieces - if the driver gets ruined then you need to pay up for a whol new set.

Ok I bought a pair of the over-ear headphones - the BT-30Q or something. I was passing through the airport and spotted them hanging on a rack in duty free and grabbed them for £68.
Overall I'm quite pleased with them but I have a few comments about them:
Pros:
Sound quality is great - lots of detail available
Extremely convenient and fold up small
Really easy to put on and off once you get used to it
No extraneous cables to keep untangled
Comfortable
Good volume
Full control over play functions discretely hidden within the body of the right ear
Pairs with up to nine devices so great for Skype calls at home
Work well with voice dialling - just tap the right cup with your hand and chat away. Very sci-fi!
Cons:
They let in sound from outside so not ideal for train/tube commuters
The power connector is incompatible with the phone. Extra socket required.
They're quite big. I feel like a Cyberman when wearing
Microphone is exposed to wind
Very susceptible to phone positioning issues. If the phone is in my left pocket, the bluetooth received (on my right ear) can sometimes cut out when I turn my head to the right.
The last con really does irritate me and I don;t know whether this is an issue you often get with streaming bluetooth devices or not.
Overall though I'd certainly recommend them. They are much easier to use day to day than fiddling around untangling the many strands of cables that come with the SonyEricsson in-the-ear solution, that's for sure.
