What's the difference between imap4 and pop3?

does vizzavi support imap4?

If you need to ask what IMAP is then you wont need it.

Vizzavi did support it when they first started - they only supported that and not pop3 - dunno if thats still the case. IMPAP is just another protocol - similar to POP3 but very very few people use it.

POP is a very simle mail access protocol, and therefore has limited functonality. I opens a TCP connection to the mail server on port 110 and goes through 3 phases: 1) Authorization: Username and password is authenticated. 2) Transaction: emails are downloaded. 3) Update: The mails marked for deletion are deleted from the mail server.

IMAP (Internet mail access protocol) does mostly the same as POP3 but you can assign messages to different remote folders. When a message arrives at your mailserver its per default associated with the recipients inbox folder. You can change that using IMAP...

Translated: IMAP is a more advanced version of POP, and is being used widely... not as previously stated, *rarely*.
