Hi everyone,

I buy and sell mobile phones and since meeting a trader I purchased my phones solely from him. Since meeting him seven months ago I have spent $4600 usd with him or to make it easier for you guys 3000 pounds.

He had the habit of passing off phones that were new looking for as new. Often when I checked them I found entries in the call log and in addition the call timers would be over an hour etc.
Also he had the habit of wanting to do business only at night and as such I didnt get to test many of the phones I purchased until after I paid him as I couldnt me bothered with testing multiple phones in the night outside.

Last month I bought some Motorola Slvrs from him and I tested three of them out of the five I purchased in front him, when it appeared they all were new I didnt bother to test the remaining three.

I had bought one phone for my Uncle and before I carried it to my Uncle I tested it and upon removing the back cover I noticed that the sticker with the IMEI was sticky and dirty so much so that the numbers were barely recognizable. Also the plastic that was supposed to protect the camera lens was missing, when I powered up the phone the call timer was over 3 hours.

Still I did not complain to him and gave my Uncle the phone, my Uncle called me four days after receiving the phone and said the quality of the phone's camera was such that he could barely make out the images on the screen.

I told him that the slvr does not have the best camera nor does it have a very good screen and that when I see him next I will do a reset of the phone and see if that helps.

I then called the seller with whom I had a fairly good relationship with and told him about the problem with the phone's camera and the fact that the phone appeared to be heavily used.

What can I say, I was thoroughly surprised at the way the seller begun to behave it was as if though we were in a huge arguement. He immediately became defensive and rude.

One week later my Uncle called me to say that the phone shut down on him on a full battery at work and he was unable to turn it back on.

I went to my Uncle's house and collected the phone called the seller who after much arguing agreed to test the phone. When I received the phone from my Uncle I put it on the charger and after about an hour or so it came on after powering down constantly even though it kept flashing the message "Charge Complete"

When the seller and his friend do come to my house, he behaved in a most abusive manner and refused to do a refund or exchange.

I was shocked as I had bought numerous phones from him and had put a great deal of money in his pocket and was shocked at how this seemingly decent seller would behave.

It was one hell of an arguement at my house as my relatives also conveyed to him their opinions.

I must say that I have learnt two things from this:

1. Test every phone on the spot in front of the seller before paying.

2. Never do more than one transaction with a deceptive dealer.
Eg. Once he attempted to sell me a user Motorola V3x and I discovered it was used, instead of telling him to bring me a new one. I said okay, ill take it anyway. I bought many more phones from him after that incident.

My falling out with this dealer has also affected my business as now I have to be buying from several strangers rather than one person. This is because I cannot find a seller with as wide variety of phones as the one I had the falling out with.

As a matter of fact, so discouraged I was from that incident that I took a break from selling mobile phones.

Really a slvr isnt that much and I didnt have a problem buying another one for my Uncle. Its just that I was surprised at his behaviour and and decided to share my experience.

Thanks for reading.

@adi - Was he a friend of yours? Why did you NOT contact the proper authorities about what transpired? Just when it comes to MONEY - $$$$$ matters . . . there's definitely NO: Relatives, Friends, Teachers, Girl Friends, Concubines, Mistresses, One-Night-Stands . . . etc.

Be more extra careful next time mate

Hi Jojo no he wasnt a friend but we were friendly with each other.
I didnt have any sort of relationship with this man outside of talking about and purchasing phones from him. However, I thought he would have handled the situation alot better.

Hello Awave, im a girl not a dude
