> Audio quality with HBH-DS970 and W850i
Bookmark topic
Hi, I am a huge music freak and so to be true to myself I went out and bought the W850i the day it was released! I found the HPM-70 earphones that come with it to be excellent in sound reproduction and by this I mean great bass and treble. I listen to rock mostly and am a strong believer that if the earphones sound good with rock music, then they are pretty darn good. The W850i has graphic equalizer settings to boost certain frequencies and I usually use the MegaBass option coz when I'm on the move with disturbances from the outside world, it still feels like I'm listening to my powerpacked home theater! Its the punch that matters!!:)
Moving on, I bought the HBH-DS970 after reading all the good reviews and posts about it thinking it will solve all my woes about tangling wires and earplugs frequently being jerked out of my ears! To my utter dismay, the sound quality, although probably one of the best stereo bluetooth, was poor. Now let me describe what I mean by 'poor'...When I change graphic equalizer settings on the phone, it doesn't make any difference in the audio reproduction, the bass seems to have reduced quite a bit although the overall volume may sound louder, but believe me folks, louder ain't better!
Good earphones need to be able to deliver a wider range of sound with good depth and clarity. These do have clarity but lack depth and unfortunately that is something I really really do need. There is hope yet, when I resume from pause, for a split-second initially I can hear the bass and depth but this soon shallows out! Not sure why this happens but I'm inclined to believe these earphones do have it in them, maybe I just haven't been able to tap into that yet or somehow enable it!! Any clues?
Now, if someone was this particular and elaborate in describing these earphones, I would've saved myself $100 and just stuck with my HPM-70.
By the way, if the sound doesn't alter at all when I change the equalizer presets and select bass or Megabass, can I report this to support? Coz this really upsets me and I feel like I have been cheated after spending a considerable amount on a premium product.
I have always believed in Sonyericsson for audio quality because they are into sound equipment too, all the others like nokia etc. suck big time!! (Believe me, I've owned them all!!) Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for reading!

I have the same combination, but think the headset is superb. That said, I don't alter the equalizer settings since I am usually using the earphones where there is some ambient noise, and I suspect I wouldn't be able to tell the difference!

@jack77777,
OK well that is a difference as with the M600 i tried them with Megabass and it was horrible, In fact i have just tried them with all the preset equaliser settings and there is a big difference but not in a good way so don't think you are missing out. There does seem to be some thing about the sound maybe in the receiving end as IMO it does produce a rich and smooth sound. I have just left it on Normal settings as that's great for me and the sound i prefer.
