what about a java application. are there not any media players out there in the form of a .jar for the w800 we could use? since we can redirect buttons using davinci (i think) we could redirect the walkman button to some other program.

yeah, its possible to change an icon in the main menu to open a Java app (commonly used for opera mini) but i have yet to come across an app that is even slightly better then the w8's media player. In fact I've never even seen one that works at all... add to that, the Java security prompts (okay you can disable them... whatever) but its still a lot more practical, and definitely requires less effort to just buy a newer Walkman phone with Walkman player 2 (w850 etc). I don't understand what you want better with the w800's media player anyway, as it seems to be pretty good, at least for me...
In conclusion, don't bother, unless you want to write your own Java app, and do some serious modding to you're phones fw. Basically it's pointless. And, I forgot to add, if its the sound quality that you're wanting to improve, try adding the newest acoustic driver. (if your phone is cid36) this will remove the hiss present in k750's and w800's with the stock firmware
hope that answers your question
