My K800i just died,
athough was not a sudden death. There were many signs of his death in the past months. Some weird behaviors, on/off delays, everyday more frequent crashes and reset and I can go on and on.
Unfortunately, I'm in London and my unbranded K800i simply doesn't fit the still unclear SE policy for updating phones in the UK. All my attempts, beginning from this September until today, were unsuccessful as you can predict.
Dunno if this could prevent my phones death, but it's likely that a software upgrade would help my case (i.e. reducing possibilities), avoiding Assistance Center to be filled with buggy phones, etc (otherwise, why so many companies are implementing such services?).
When I tried to contact UK Support Service (FYI in UK is not free, only country in the world), they clearly told me that non UK phones will not repaired in the UK. That is not my idea of a global brand in a global world. So I tried to go to a AC to check if that was true and guess what, it was true....they checked the IMEI and just said no way baby. Both the online operator and the AC guy told the same thing "UK is different". I know there are entire generations of brit people raised with this idea, don't want to discuss this since it takes ages. Although I have to say that makes me smile just as when I hear french people saying "We are the best". Anyway my point is: how silly is that to say that for a f******* cell phone or how complicated is for Sony Ericsson allowing unbranded phones to be updated online or in any AC throughout the UK?
In conclusion my phone has now be shipped to Italy (I can get a new K800 for a little bit more money) where it will be repaired with no questions, since they told me it's a SE phone no matter the origin. Since I bought it online from a French company and it is actually an Unbranded French K800i.
Thanks for your time.

Really? I wonder what makes the UK so different.
So basically, no matter which country you buy your K800i you can take it to any country in the world to for an update - but not the UK?

standard SE warranty means that you can only get support in the country you bought the phone. The exception to this is that you can buy the phone from an EU country and get support in any EU country
this is all stated in the user manual
where did you get your phone from?

I bought my phone from the italian PIXMANIA site (french based shop network with an interface for every EU country). Unfortunately, my manual/warranty is an box in Italy.

what you need is the invoice, not the manual/warranty...

well unless Pixmania source their phones from outside EU you should have no problem getting warranty in UK.
might be worth a chat with Pixmania about this too

No, they knew it was from HK...i had to present a document from the supplier to replace the invoice they didnīt accetp initialy, because it didnīt have some data (serial number). But i had to write a protest letter, and use some persuasion
