have been offered the chance to buy a new phone and i asked the seller is it unlocked they are not sure and they say they have used it on the vodafone network and it is vodafone branded but it also works on o2.

does this mean the phone is unlocked? and will it work on the orange, virgin, tmobile etc networks?

thanks in advance for any help

Not necessarily.

The question to ask it what frequency it is capable of running on

O2 and Vodafone = 1900 mhz

TMobile and Orange = 1800mhz

Dual Band = Works on two networks
Tri-Band = Works on all networks bar 3.

I think this is right, please correct if not....

its a p900 so that means it will work on any network except 3?

It should work fine on any network, O2 and Voda are totally different networks (apart from being on the same frequency). You shouldn't have any problems with using it on other networks.

However, if you come across an auction where someone says a phone works fine on T-Mobile and Virgin and is claiming the phone is unlocked, beware! As Virgin uses T-Mobiles network so a sim from Virgin will work in a T-Mob phone and vice versa.
