hi! this is my first post so im sorry if this problem has been posted already... if it is kindly put out the link thanks. if not, here is my problem... i got my k800i this monday so i still have about 3 to 4 days to go until my 7 day warranty ends. ok here is my problem. i have a k800i with a software model R1ed001 is a china software not the hongkong (the difference between the two are) when i go to contacts in hongkong - R1ed001 when i look for a name like "ryan" i can only press "7" 3 times it goes to the contact names starting with r and after if you press "9" 3 times it takes you to the contact names starting with y. now i purposly had my k800i changed and demnded the china - r1ed001. so now i can go to the contacts the specific contacts right away. but now i have another problem. i noticed that when i look for the name "ryan" i press "7" 3 times then i press "9" 3 times, the contact will just take me to RO not RY...

im asking if this problem is also occuring on your phone coz it would be useless to have it changed. if not then is this a hardware problem or a software problem that will be fix on the next update of the firmware.

well if you press "7" thrice it will take you to "R"...and a diolog box appears up with "R" in it....the press "9" thrice it will got to "RY"
i guess after to went to "R" you must have moved the joystick....coz moving the joysick will close the diolog box above.....

hi there.. ranjith thanks for helping me but im pretty sure that i didnot move the joystick coz this also happens other names that im looking for... im just hoping this is a firmware problem so that i can update once they fixed this problem... im just waithing for all other k800i users there so they could confirm that they alsohae this problem so that i can have this phone replaced as soon as possible if ever this is a hardware problem

if you pause between pressing the 7 then the 9 the dialog in the top right
of the screen will automatically close, so ....

777 wait 1 second 999 will get you to the first contact starting with Y !

I have this problem too. This is my first SE phone and I transferred my contacts using Bluetooth from a Nokia 6800. I found that certain contacts wouldn't pop up properly when searching through the phonebook. The only way I fixed it was manually editing the names (delete last name, save and then input last name again), which is horribly time consuming.

If you find any other way to fix it I'd be glad to hear it lol.

Does the 9 digit goes to 'o' when you are typing messages or notes etc. If it does, I think it is a hardware problem and you should get your phone replaced. For me it sounds like that 7 and 9 are hanging so that when you type 9 it goes to 7. Correct me if i am wrong. Cause i dont have that problem and havent seen anybody with that prob.

i get my phones off someone who gives 7 day warranties as well. oh well, slim chance my guess is right though.

as for your problem, you might ought to do a reflash of the f/w or something along those lines.

Maybe there is a chinese character overlay. I would check the manual for that.

thanks dmathew, and all the people who helped me... I was checking the phone contacts in the advance menu where there is a sort menu that lets you choose if its first name or last name. then i realized that my contacts was jumbled up coz i i just tranferred it using the bluetooth of my k750i... i guess this is whats causing the problem... ill let you know ill try to input all my contacts one by one... if this doesnt do... i may have to go back to the store and have it changed....
