Right. Got my P990i unlocked today by Orange code. If I try and flash it from the SE site, will it put crappy ol' Orange firmware on there and relock it? If that happened, would the old code work again?
Secondly, I put an O2 Sim in my unlocked phone and it asked for a Sim lock code. I tried the default (given by an O2 shop) 5555 and it refused it. I tried something else and it refused that. One more go left. Would an O2 shop be able to reset it to a default so I can use in my phone? That was the idea of getting it unlocked in the first place. I had this same Sim in a Nokia 6822 only two days ago and it did not ask for a code then. Why the P990i?

Ok first part to the question.
If you reflash the phone with generic SE software as long as the CDA number is changed to the Generic one then no it will not put you Orange back on.
Even if you did down load the orange software it would not relock the phone.
If you do lock the sim card then ring o2 for your puk code which will unlock the sim card and will then reask you for a new one.
The P990 is no different to any other phone regarding the codes.
There is a Simlock
Phone lock
and a Network lockHope this helps.

Thanks for that info. Thought I read somewhere that it relocked it. The Orange firmware is the latest one. I want to get rid of the crappy Orange interface and get my games etc back.

Hi. Thanks. Strange things. I entered my phone number on the O2 website and it gave me a PUK. I put this in and it said "enter Pin". I input 5555 and it said repeat Pin. I did this and it came up with 9 attempts left. Wrong PUK.
And did the Service code thing. It said:-
Network 5
Network subset 5
Service Provider 5
Corporate 5
Sim 5
Any idea what this lot means?
Any ideas apart from ringing O2 tomorrow?

I thought the default O2 SIM card lock code is usually "0000"? It might be worth a try.

Hi Dave,
Tried that one first! Going to ring O2 this morning. They told me it was 5555.

@ dougproctor
Hi, I'm new here, had a P990 on Orange for a couple of weeks now. Can you tell me how you got it unlocked using an Orange code? Where did the code come from? Is it possible for anyone to get one?
TIA
Ben

Ben,
To get the unlock code for an Orange phone you will have to ask Orange and they will charge you £20 for it.
