Hello, I am just curious how it is to live and work in Vancouver, Canada. Might move there next year. Love the city as a tourist but don't know much else. Anyone hiring in the computer/mobile industry? How are living expenses? Is it hard for Americans to get legal residency?

Vancouver's an amazing place - one of the favo(u)rite cities I've lived in. As for jobs, the tech industry is fairly strong, though hiring recently is a bit slow due to general economic uncertainties. If you're wondering what type of computing/IT jobs are available, I'd suggest searching http://www.monster.ca or http://www.workopolis.com (Vancouver/Lower Mainland area). Also be sure to check out http://www.bctechnology.com. If you're moving here from Hawaii, get ready for a bit more rain, but I'm sure you already know that. Living expenses are on the high side for Canada, but not outrageous. Not sure about American visas etc.

Thanks for the info! I'll check the sites you linked. Hey, I don't mind the rain...I live in a very rainy area of Hawaii but it's just nice...it makes nature more colorful. As for the living expense I would expect any place (except NYC and SF) is less than Hawaii. I've only heard great things about Canada and especially Vancouver. I guess I just have to check the rules for visas. Thanks!
