Mate of mine has a 1992 K reg 1.8 5 door version.
The mk 3 Golf isnt the best loved out of the Golf family, Most think its a bit bloated & not a true Golf, Not the nicest car to drive either.
Also very mean on standard equipment, Plus VWs do rust so check carefully round the rear wheel arches & also have a good check all over for tin worm.
Parts are cheap to if you avoid the VW dealer route, German,Sweedish & French / Euro car parts etc.
Theres a few VW breakers about too for body / trim / engines etc
If you really want one, find a good one, look after it & it will just keep going for years.
Some kind of alarm / immobiliser would also be worth looking / adding to one, Not the most secure of cars.

the k reg is different to the newer p reg models, the newer ones come with alarm and imobiliser as standard.

Seeing as you never said P reg to start with & just mk 3 I thought I would add the alarm / immobiliser comment.
You seem to know a lot about Golf's Ill leave you to it then

A friend has a p-reg mk3 and loves it. It is a 1.6 cl and is well specced with remote central locking and electric windows all round. It isnt the most economical car in its class but is better to drive than a same age astra or escort.
