I need a new phone. I've had T68i->T610->K700 and currently have the W800. My requirements are simple (I think), but I can’t seem to find any 100% match. Maybe I’m too picky…
It must have a resolution of 240x320 pixels.
No touch-screen, navigation by keys only.
Mp3 player important
Must be ok for j2me gaming, control-wise (e.g. W800 and K800 is fine for gaming, M600 I assume is not)
Camera… if it’s not as good as in W800/W810/K750, then I prefer it’s not even there
Not too big

First I looked at W900. Too big.
P990 also to big, and has touch screen… but in case I change my mind, is the camera as good as in W800/W810?
W850 looked nice, but amazingly stupid decision about the camera, so I dumped it again. Might as well get one without camera then.
M600 or W950… latest UIQ = not much software, and I still don’t want touch screen, but ok, I can learn to live with that IF it can be controlled by keys only also, and it’s ok for gaming too (there’s no joystick, so what does one do?)
Looked at W900 again… actually have all of my requirements it seems, but still big…and I don’t like that twist thingy… maybe I could learn to live with that…but what about hiss? Can the walkman-buttons of the W900 be used as joystick in games?
Ended up looking at W850 again. How’s the hiss in W850? I don’t want another walkman-hiss disappointment like the W800. I’ve been told that the small LED’s on the front of the W850 are part of a D-pad. How is it for gaming?

Never mind the cost. I just want a phone that’s not too big, plays mp3 files in decent quality, can be used for simple gaming (not n-gage like, but not one-thumb either), has a resolution of 240x320 pixels, no touch-screen, not too big.

Suggestions of other brands also welcome. Thanks for any help.

I'd go for the k800i, although if you use mega bass on your w800 then I'd look futher into the w810i or maybe the w850 (noticed you commented on but i don't have time to read...) the w850 doesn't have as good a cam. as the w800 - no af

I think the K800I would suite you as it has a little joystick for games, a great camera and the music player is the same as the Walkman version 1 phones but without the megabase function.
Or you can wait for the new SE phones next year?

EDIT - I just re read your post and I think the W850I will be your best bet as you seem to not mind loosing the camera and prefer an MP3 player, plus the W850I isn't too big and gives you all the 3G functions of the K800I. And at least you get a camera you can use now and then rather then none at all.

the w850i has good mp3 player, the d-pad you will get used to as i have and i have big hands, on gaming terms i only played fifa07 so far and only use one thumb lol so cant comment on that, camera has no AF so not as good as w800i, so overall it will be very hard to get a phone with all your need so your going to have to take something out like k800i but not as good p3 player(if you use mega bass especially) or w900 but a big phone.

good luck with the search

Do the W810i. Why fix it when it is not broken?

The K800 is the best idea. Best for everything you want.

Thanks for all your replies.
The K800 does seem to be the best bet... I left it out though for two reasons;
1) it's not a walkman phone, but I too think it actually has better quality than my W800 anyway.
2) the girlfriend has it, and somehow I think it would be nice not to have the same set...

The W810 isn't much of an improvement from the W800, and lacks the 240x320 pixels display.

So far it's a decision between the W850 and W900 it seems. I have to pick which drawbacks I want to live with; lousy camera/poor navigaion? or big sized heavy phone.
Also, has no one has experienced hiss on these two models like on the W800 and W810? I was told yesterday that W850 also has this hiss problem, but he was a Qtek freak so....could just be religion.

If you are really 'open minded' have a look at Samsung i520, Lg JOY or N73 - the main advantage of these handsets is the one hand operated S60 OS. It is said the Samsung has the best screen, Nokia the best connectivity and Lg best looks :D
